About The Tasting Club

The Suppositions Tasting Club organizes tasting experiences in and around Austin, TX, providing guests with the unique opportunity to explore real food and culture. While food is essential for our survival, we rarely take time to savor it. We eat too much, too quickly. And in the process, we forfeit the sensory experiences that accompany a great meal. Food brings people together. We hope you enjoy meeting the other guests as much as you enjoy the meal.

The concept of a tasting club was an inevitable discovery for me. Flipping through a magazine well over a year ago, I ran across this picture, and felt an overwhelming desire to be sitting at that very table, enjoying a glass of wine and basking in the candlelight. And then my mind wandered further. I wondered who else might be sitting at that table. Would I be dining across the globe in a foreign country? Would I even speak the same language as the other guests? What kinds of divine flavors would my pass my lips over the course of the evening?

In that moment, I decided that I could be there in that picture, sharing an amazing evening with friends – new and old.

After all, a meal is about more than simply filling empty stomachs - food delights our senses.

Food is beautiful. When was the last time you noticed the bright purple variegations on the face of an eggplant? Or the deep orange flesh of a peach?

Food is aromatic. Can you smell the scent of rosemary as you run your fingers across its needles? Or the aroma of garlic simmering in olive oil?

Food is musical. Think about the sound of a cucumber as it snaps between your teeth. Or the seeds of a blackberry popping like bubble wrap as you chew. Or a piece of crispy fried chicken just as you bite into it.

Food is flavorful. If you’ve ever enjoyed the intense flavor of Osso Bucco as its rich juices coat your tongue, you know what I mean.

Are you hungry yet? If so, I hope you’ll join us.

About Stacy Fisher-Gunn RD, LD, CDE

It’s hard for me to put into words how much enjoyment I feel while shopping for ingredients, playing with (and developing) new recipes, and tasting the delicate flavors of real food. Each week, I sketch out a menu that’s flexible enough to accommodate any gems I run across at the farmers’ market. I can hardly wait for Saturday mornings, when I get to browse through fresh ingredients that lure me with their flashy shapes and colors, begging to be added to my basket.

Looking back over my life experiences, it’s easy to see how they’ve led to the development of this concept. My fondest childhood memories include picking black raspberries along the roadside, cranking homemade ice cream, eating warm tomatoes from the vine, and wandering curiously through the summer kitchen where our salt cured hams hung from the ceiling on hooks. I was blessed to grow up with a mother and grandmother in the home – both of whom loved to cook and share their love of food with me. In high school, I experimented with recipes (some turned out well, others not so much). In college, I worked as a banquet server while pursuing a degree in nutrition. And for more than 10 years, I’ve worked as a registered dietitian, seeing firsthand how our food choices often shape our future. I’m hopeful that the Suppositions Tasting Club will inspire mindful dining and nourish the minds, bodies and souls of each guest.

Hi Deedee! There are no membership fees. You simply register for any upcoming events you’d like to attend, and come enjoy a great meal. You’re automatically part of the club (or family, as I like to think of it) once you’ve attended one event!

Thanks, Joan! What I love about these tasting events, is that it gives all of us an opportunity to try things we might not make at home. And I’m with you on the key lime pie :)
